History
Hospice Northwest was incorporated in
1986 as Via Vitae Community Palliative Care Volunteers. This
not-for-profit charity is governed by a volunteer board of
directors and operated by a staff consisting of an Executive
Director, a Communications Coordinator/Office Administrator, a
Volunteer Coordinator and a Support Group Facilitator.
District programs are administered by
coordinators from satellite offices located in, Geraldton,
Longlac, Terrace Bay, and Marathon.
Hospice Northwest is a member of the
Northwest End of Life Network, the Canadian Hospice Palliative
Care Association, the Hospice Association of Ontario and the
Ontario Palliative Care Association.
Hospice Northwest is partially funded
by the Local Health Integration Network and the United Way of
Thunder Bay. Mac’s Convenience store, located at 3 Balsam Street
in Thunder Bay, supports Hospice Northwest through the sale of
Nevada tickets. Bayshore Nursing Agency supports Hospice Northwest
through third party fundraising initiatives.
